In the South of Hora, between the traditional Aleukantra and Niochori, you can find the Windmills; an impressive sight to see. The whitewashed and imposing windmills are built one next to the other facing the sea. There used to be twenty of them in total, but today only seven out of the remaining ten are preserved. The windmills were used by the locals to grind wheat and they contributed to the financial strength and stability of the island as Mykonos was a stopover for all cargo ships of the Aegean Sea.
In Niochori you will also find the traditional bakery of Gioras (Fournos tou Giora) that still uses a wood burning oven to make bread.
