The Profitis Ilias Chapel

On the highest peak of the island, at an altitude of 308 meters, you can find the chapel of Profitis Ilias (=Prophet Elijah). Due to its location, it offers a panoramic view of the island and depending on the atmosphere and visibility, you might be able to see many of the neighboring islands.

The chapel was built in 1937 by the inhabitants of the island. One of the names that stands out is Ioannis Patelis, who worked in the mines of the region back then. When he had the opportunity and with the help of his donkey, he transferred materials all the way to the top in order to build the church.
