The Church of Panagia Portaitissa is considered one of the most beautiful churches in the Dodecanese. It was founded in the 18th century at the entrance of the castle (position Rodia). It was built in the honor of Panagia Portaitissa and legend has it that the icon found in the church was “drawn” by itself the moment it was placed on wood.
Every August 15th, there is a big feast and all residents and tourists celebrate together and follow the traditions in one of the biggest festivals of the island. One of the traditions is the famous local delicacy “Lampriano”, handed out by the women of the island.
