This monastery looks like a medieval castle with its battlements, scalding bowl and high walls which protected it from the attacks of various besiegers. At the top of the stairs on the west, you will see the only entrance. It is so small that you will need to bend in order to be able to pass through it.
The church stands in the center of this enclosure. It is dedicated to the Archangels Michael and Gabriel and it is surrounded by cells. The monastery was founded between 1570 and 1572 and during the Turkish occupation it hosted 100 monks. Remarkable relics such as the gilded iconostasis are still kept there. The library which was built in 1909 is also impressive but, unfortunately, only few frescoes have survived.
