It is the third mountain village of Ithaca and one of the oldest settlements on the island. It is 21 km from Vathi and it is situated at an altitude of 350 m. on Niion mountain. In the Middle Ages and the early Venetian Times, Exogi was one of the main settlements of Ithaca because of its position that could see the northern part of the island and provide safety from pirate raids. In the early 19th century, the inhabitants moved to the settlements of Stavros and Platrithia and later a wave of migration resulted in the dramatic reduction of the population. It belonged to the Municipality of Polyktoriou until 1912.
The village is picturesque with beautiful old and new buildings with spectacular views to the East where you can see Platrithias, Frikes and in the distance the coast of mainland Greece and the islands of Lefkada, Meganisi, Kalamos, Arkoudi, Atokos etc.
